Marketing Information Overload

It’s Saturday morning, my usual time to sit down and go through my RSS reader, purge through my email folder called “Read!” and just overall feed the information junkie in me – before hitting the gym for my morning workout.

It can get overwhelming and truthfully I think I have a pretty good system. The internet has equipped us with a wealth of information and with the ever-changing world of marketing, the amount of information continues to grow.

How do you keep up? What systems do you implement, so that you don’t miss out on information that is important to you?

I’d love to know.

Search Engine Marketing – It Takes Work!

Love this. It’s often hard to explain why search engine marketing requires time and effort. Many thing it should be an instant fix and something that done easily. Every client that we work with when it comes to search engine marketing requires research, specific strategies and tactics. It’s not magic – it’s work.

The search engine marketing solution is often what clients don’t want to hear – but it’s the truth – it takes:

Knowledge + Patience + Investment + Testing + Ongoing Training – and Sometimes an In-House Search Engine Marketing Professional.

Social Media Popularity – What’s Your Dependency?

Did my title throw you? Think I’m going to hype social media and give you the reasons why it must be a part of your marketing arsenal?
If so, I did throw you. The reason I selected this topic is because over the last year I’ve seen a lot of e-celebrities – individuals that have risen through the means of social media. That’s the great thing about the internet, it gives everyone the opportunity to create a name for themselves and share their gifts and knowledges. This can often create e-celebrity status.

An individual achieves e-celebrity status by

  • Showcasing their Writing Talent
  • Sporting Achievements
  • Providing Comic Relief
  • Music Ability
  • Video Production
  • Photography Skills
  • Business Know-How

The one thing many e-celebrities forget is creating equal market saturation. Don’t just find one outlet to marketing yourself. Create a marketing model that is solid. I often see people use Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to build their following, but many times they do not drive people to their online home, their own website. What would happen if you woke up tomorrow and Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn was gone? How would it affect your business? I see you shaking your head, but many people never though the impact of MySpace would fade and that’s exactly what we’ve seen happen.

You should always be focused on driving people to your website, collecting their email addresses and getting them to engage with you in other ways, besides social media. If you aren’t doing these things you may be too dependent on social media. Those who depend too much on a solo marketing outlet may wake up one morning only to realize they have lost their e-celebrity status. Just a thought!
