Beating the Winter Blues: Things to do to Improve Your Mood

It’s been a long winter with a lot of snow.  They say 25 snow events in Kansas City as of today.
I’m feeling drained, exhausted and lacking the energy I normally possess.  I force myself to go to the gym
after 12 hour day at work simply because that is one thing that tends to perk me up.

I’m in bed usually before 11:00 p.m. but typically don’t fall alseep until about 1:00 a.m. (blame it on the fact that
I take my laptop to bed with me) and then up at 5:30 a.m. to prepare for another day.

There was a study done that links weather to our mood.  The rememdy is to get outside daily in the sunlight
for 30 minutes a day.  I don’t think the people who came up with that rememdy realized how cold it is in some places.
I can testify to the fact that when I use to tan my energy level was much hire in the winter time, but now
that I’ve turned 36 I’ve vowed to stay out of the tanning beds.

Being in the marketing and advertising industry mood can in fact hinder our creativity, so what is one to do?

  1. Be kind and outgoing to others
  2. SMILE - Make yourself smile all the time
  3. Crank up the music. (Go for the upbeat tempo)
  4. Find the humor - laughter goes a long way when it comes to improving your mood.
  5. Look your best - don’t walk out that door until you feel like a million bucks even if that includes taking just a little extra time to get ready     for work.

What do you do when you get the winter weather blues?

This is very true. I have even noticed the change in people’s moods during different weather. When its sunny, people are general more friendlier as opposed to when its cold and raining. It is a shame that we need good weather to be nice to eachother, but i guess that’s just how it goes.

I agree totally with what you said about looking good to feel good. I always find that when i make an effort, i start to feel alot better about myself and the day ahead. Thanks for your words of wisdom.
